Allentown Police Caught On Camera Attacking Man For Asking A Question
Updated to include interview with the victim.
In newly obtained footage by The Freedom Paradox, Allentown Pennsylvania police officers are seen attacking a man for what looks like zero reason.
Information we received from eye witnesses is that on 9/8/2018 at approximately. 1:30 a.m the police were called to the scene of a family dispute on 700 block of South Filmore Street. Upon arrival everyone at the scene remained silent and stated they did not want to speak to the police. This made several officers angry enough to begin cursing at everyone. The man seen in the video being assaulted has been identified as John Perez . He was reportedly not involved with the family incident. He was simply curious what was going on and proceeded to ask one of the officer why they were all over his property. That is when Officer Jose Lebron began cursing at him, according to Perez. At that point a frustrated Perez told the officer if he wanted to fight he was willing as long as he put his badge and gun down. That is when Lebron pushed Perez violently enough to knock him to the ground. When Perez got back up to confront the officer he was swarmed by half a dozen other officers.
Perez checked himself into the hospital after being released from jail on his own recognizance. He was charged with resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. He suffered a broken nose, injured shoulder, swelling, and scrapes and bruises from his hips to his shoulder because officers punched and kneed him.
According to the police report filed by Officer Jose Lebron:
Out of nowhere the defendant showed up and mentioned something along the lines of ‘you guys feel good about yourselves talking like that?'
Perez then mentioned “something about our guns and took an aggressive step toward me,” Lebron said.
Lebron told Perez to step back and get out of his face, according to the affidavit, which said Perez raised his arm and clenched his fist. An officer pushed Perez’s hand away, Lebron wrote in the document, and Lebron again told him, “Get out of my face.”
When Perez didn’t back off, Lebron pushed him, according to the affidavit. Perez then “charged at me with both fists closed,” Lebron said, adding that Perez was trying to pull him down. That’s when other officers assisted Lebron in subduing Perez and handcuffing him.
Freedom Paradox member Severin Freeman was able to reach out to Perez in an exclusive interview. That interview is available below.
John Perez said he plans to hire an attorney both to defend him in his criminal case and to pursue a misconduct case against the Allentown police.
Perez acknowledged that he’s had run-ins with police before, including stints behind bars.
“When I was really young, I got in trouble,I feel like this time I was not in the wrong at all. To give me charges for something that I didn’t do, and then on top of that for putting me through the situation and going through the pain and headache, I didn’t have to go through that, you know.”
